0 Spreading the name at Saltex 2011

SpeaderOne of the largest turf-specific demonstrations of its type ever staged at Saltex will take place on the 960 sqare metre Everris stand - B1 (Blue Zone) - on all three days of this year's show.

Combining a spreader calibration demonstration with a hands-on technical workshop, the event has been organised by Everris (formerly named Scotts) to help provide answers to one of the most frequent questions received by the company's turf and amenity sales team, namely, how to correctly set up and operate spreaders to achieve accurate and cost-effective applications of fertilizer.

The spreader calibration demonstration at Saltex will be carried out on behalf of Everris by spreader and sprayer testing and calibration specialist, SCS Spreader and Sprayer Testing Ltd, based at Wheaton Aston, Staffordshire.

Machines to be featured during the practical working demonstrations include an Everris SR-2000 pedestrian rotary spreader and a Vicon PS04 oscillating-spout machine mounted on a compact tractor.

During each demonstration, fertilizer will be spread over a measured distance with the applied product being caught in individual trays and weighed, enabling precise calculation of spreading rate and accuracy across the specific bout width.

Among the points that will be highlighted during each demonstration are the importance of maintaining a constant working speed, dealing with common spreading issues and problems, spreader maintenance and the features incorporated within spreading equipment to help improve accuracy and minimise waste.

Accompanied throughout by explanatory commentary, each 45 minute demonstration is scheduled to commence at 10am, 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the show and at 10am, 12 noon and 2pm on the final day of Saltex, when the show closes at 4.15pm.

In the period between each scheduled spreader calibration demonstration, visitors will be able to quiz Everris and SCS staff on application and calibration issues and also carry out physical calibrations of an Everris pedestrian spreader. This will be followed by timed spreading runs designed to demonstrate how variations in walking speed can adversely affect application accuracy.

Although the spreader calibration demonstrations and technical workshops will represent a very important educational part of Everris' presence at this year's Saltex show, the company will be reminding visitors that 2011 is the very first time that the name Everris has been seen at the event.

This time last year, it was Scotts that was preparing to show its extensive range of world-class fertilizers, plant protection products, grass seeds and complementary products to the amenity, landscaping and turf care sectors.

Although the name might have changed, Everris will be assuring existing and prospective customers visiting Stand B1 that it remains "business as usual", with the same products and same people looking forward with great confidence to new and exciting opportunities as a member of the ICL group.

Two specific areas that will be highlighted by Everris staff at Saltex are the company's advanced fertilizer manufacturing facilities in Heerlen, Holland, and its potash mine near Cleveland, a valuable UK source of potash for Everris fertilizers.

"This year's Saltex show gives Everris the opportunity to formally launch itself to professionals working within the sports, amenity and landscaping sectors," commented Richard Walton, the company's Business Manager for the UK and Ireland. "We hope that visitors will find plenty to interest them on our stand and will share in our excitement at the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead."

"The spreader calibration demonstration is an extremely good fit with our Integrated Turf Management programme and should provide a useful and interesting experience for every buyer and user of fertilizer wanting to improve accuracy and minimise waste. Everyone will be most welcome on stand B1."
