With work now on-going to lay a new 3G pitch at Sardis Road in preparation for the coming season, relevant statements have been issued both by the pitch supplier and Pontypridd RFC.

The manufacturing of the new playing surface has being carried out by Desso Sports Systems, who also supplied the original pitch.

A spokesman for Desso Sports Systems commented:

"Desso Sports is committed to the quality and safety of all our products.

"The Pontypridd pitch is no exception, and it has passed World Rugby Regulation 22 testing in the lab and the field, and has been certified by World Rugby as compliant.

"We are also aware of recent skin friction concerns regarding this pitch. Our goal is always to be a collaborative partner with World Rugby. This is why, under no contractual obligation to the buyer, we will install a new surface at Pontypridd Rugby Club.

"This new turf system will allow us to work with the Rugby Federation to further develop our understanding of the requirements of rugby use on synthetic turf and continue to optimize our products."

Peter Howells, Ponty Rugby Director of Finance, stated:

"The existing playing surface at Sardis Road had proved to be hugely popular with our local communities, however since an issue was raised about the surface we have had to work tirelessly, with many interested parties, to establish a solution to the situation.

"Interest in this project has been phenomenal, and I would like to take this opportunity to pass on our grateful thanks to the many organisations and individuals who have assisted us in our quest for completion.

"We are already taking bookings to use the new pitch, and can't wait to be back in business again"
