STRI International Golf Course Architechs and Consultants return to Fairway Conference / Exhibition in Munich 29th September - 1st October 2006
The STRI, Europe's leading golf and sports consultancy organisation with over 75 years experience, return to Munich for the second year this time with two senior members of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA) within its ranks - Jonathan Tucker and David Hemstock. Between them they have been involved with over 300 golf projects in a 20 year period in which time they have been responsible for 18 new golf courses and the creation of over 300 golf holes in Europe and Asia. Recent projects have included the new Royal Ascot Golf Club and design for the Silver Mountain golf course, an exciting project in Romania.
Golf development is a team effort and STRI can provide the range of expertise and skills demanded within the one organisation from individual experts within their own discipline. Therefore the potential of new sites can be fully realised from landfill/re-claimed sites and mountainous areas through to more hospitable terrain; involving environmental planners, engineers, ecologists, designers, CAD technicians and agronomists.
Work on established courses represents a significant area of activity and our philosophy is to work closely with golf clubs to achieve sympathetic improvements based on sound design, agronomic and construction principles.
STRI are also consultants to the R & A, providing support to all Open Championship venues. The true links qualities seen at Royal Liverpool this year, with hard, fast surfaces rewarding good shot-making, were appreciated by the golfers - particularly Tiger Woods!
Environmental issues, new legislation, diminishing pesticide availability and restricted water use are of critical importance to all in the industry. This year Bob Taylor (STRI Senior Ecologist and adviser to the R & A) will be available on the STRI stand together with Ian McPherson (Irrigation Consultant STRI/RHA), Jonathan Tucker and David Hemstock. The STRI team will be able to discuss these and other matters.
