Synthetic Surface Training Course Dates Announced

The Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) have confirmed their dates and venues for their popular training courses on maintenance of synthetic surfaces, now in their sixth year, in conjunction with Technical Surfaces.

In light of the rising number of personal injury claims as a direct result of poorly maintained synthetic surfaces, facility managers, local authorities and grounds managers are now aware of the need for proper maintenance and advice.

Five one-day seminars titled "The Maintenance and Management of Synthetic Sports Surfaces" will be held at the following venues during the year.

Thursday 9 March: Bristol University, Somerset.
Wednesday 15 March: Queens University, Belfast.
Wednesday 14 June: Loughborough University, Leicester.
Tuesday 17 October: Westwood Sports Ground, Leeds.
Thursday 26 October: Cranleigh School, Surrey.

The courses are aimed at individuals who have responsibility for the regular maintenance of synthetic sports surfaces, such as synthetic grass pitches for football and hockey, "all weather" tennis courts, multi-use games areas, polymeric athletics tracks, and artificial cricket pitches.

Each seminar will cover the development of synthetic surfaces, the basic construction principles, as well as the maintenance procedures required. The courses will be suitable for club groundsmen, volunteers, school groundsmen, contractors, leisure and private club managers.

Attendance costs just £110, including lunch and refreshments. Discounted rates of £95 are available to members of the IOG and SAPCA.
