Australia is preparing to send a spy to Cardiff in an attempt to unravel the confusion surrounding the controversial Sophia Gardens pitch.
Reports about how the new strip will play in the first Test, beginning tomorrow week, have been so contradictory that captain Ricky Ponting is desperate for more information.
The ground has never hosted a Test and the groundsman is new. "We've been talking about trying to send someone down to Cardiff this week so we can have a look at what the wicket preparation looks like," Ponting said yesterday.
"That way we can get it into our own minds a little bit earlier as to what to expect.
