If you have had Japanese knotweed problems in the past, and control measures have left you with dead stalks from last year's crop of weeds, don't assume that all your problems have gone away. It is probable that lurking just under the ground, ready to come back with a vengeance in the spring, is a new flush of Japanese knotweed.
ÂÂÂÂÂÂ With such a pernicious weed as Japanese knotweed, timeliness of control, being prepared to hit it at an early stage and having the right tool for the job is crucial. In the marketplace there is nothing quite like TORDON 22KÂÂÂÂÂÂ - which has for a long time been the benchmark product for Japanese knotweed control. This product really does offer excellent efficacy against a wide range of problem weeds, when applied as a foliar treatment.
As Mr Andy Cawley, Market Manager Dow AgroSciences, Specialty Products explains. "There is never a guaranteed solution when it comes to controlling Japanese Knotweed, but TORDON 22K is still considered as the best treatment for this difficult to control weed. This is where TORDON 22K scores over other treatments which may require five or more applications over several years to get the similar levels of control."
TORDON 22K needs to be sprayed at 5.6 litres/ha when weeds are actively growing. But with Japanese Knotweed being able to grow at a rate of up to 10 cms a day - if the weeds do get too big they will need to be cut back, and the re-growth treated when they get to a more manageable size (approximately 1 metre high). The product works by being rapidly absorbed by the foliage and roots of the weeds and then translocated, or moved, throughout the plant causing disruption to the plant's growth and ultimate weed kill.
Another plus with TORDON 22K is that it offers additional benefits. It is safe to grasses, which allows the re-colonisation of the natural flora and prevents erosion. It also facilitates in the management of habitats, providing and safeguarding wildlife corridors, as well as helping to generate a bio-diverse environment.
Dow AgroSciences continues to invest in new technology for the control of difficult weeds and invasive weeds. An exciting range of products is currently in its pipeline - one of which is hoped that this will gain registration and be launched in the near future.
