One of the country's largest private-member clubs gets four seasons' use out of Toro's ultra-durable, hardened-steel blades before finally fitting new
A single set of Toro EdgeMax blades has clocked up a massive 1,800 hours of cutting time before being changed earlier this season.
Stuart Hall, workshop manager at Bedfordshire's John O'Gaunt Golf Club, finally changed his bottom blades earlier this spring after four seasons of faultless cutting with his Toro Reelmaster 5610-D fairway mower, which comes fitted with EdgeMax blades as standard.
"We only changed the blades because we wanted a slightly more aggressive angle of cut come the new growing season," says Stuart, who is responsible for machinery maintenance at the 36-hole course. "If it hadn't been for that, they could have lasted a bit longer. It's amazing to think that, with recommended grinding, they've done a whole four seasons - I'm very impressed with them."
Strengthened with hardened steel, Toro's EdgeMax blades stay sharper for longer, resulting in a cleaner, crisper cut for healthier turf and a superb after-cut appearance. They also last up to three times longer, reducing parts costs and maintenance time - something Stuart has certainly experienced.
"We only use genuine Toro parts, so we can't compare EdgeMax to spurious blades," Stuart adds. "But blades on other manufacturers' machines we've had have lasted maybe just a quarter or half as long as these EdgeMax blades. Plus with one set of £70 EdgeMax blades lasting us four years, that's a huge saving."
And with EdgeMax blades available across Toro's Greensmaster and Reelmaster mowers on models fitted with DPA (Dual Precision Adjustment) cutting units, Stuart is now keen to see how they perform on other machines in his fleet. "We're going to get our Greensmaster 3250-D fitted with EdgeMax blades as I'm interested to see how they perform on a greensmower. I'm sure I'll be just as impressed!"
