Toro's popular ProCore aerator range has been strengthened thanks to The Toro Company's recent State-side purchase - the Minneapolis-based company now owns deep-tine aeration specialist Southern Green's acclaimed Soil Reliever range.

Established in 1993, Southern Green is considered the leading manufacturer of deep-tine aeration equipment in the US. The seven-strong range of Soil Reliever products - previously distributed in the UK by John Shaw Machinery - is set to be relaunched over here through Toro distributor Lely as the ProCore SR Series.

Toro is confident that this already renowned range will go from strength to strength as part of the ProCore product stable. Offering effective aeration up to depths of 40cm, the SR Series of deep-tine, tractor-mounted aerators alleviate subsurface soil compaction on applications spanning greens, fairways, sports fields, parks and many more besides, penetrating through the compaction layer sometimes caused by traditional aeration methods.

The SR Series' tines fracture the soil, creating channels through the rootzone that allow oxygen, water and valuable nutrients to penetrate deep into the soil profile, improving drainage and deep root growth. Turf is healthier and more vigorous as a result, in turn helping to guard against disease and making more efficient use of fertilisers while also reducing water usage.

And with an array of aerators on offer, from lightweight, precision machines for smoother, softer greens, to robust, heavy-duty models to break up soil on even the most compacted surfaces, there's something to suit every application and operator.

Currently available in the UK from distributor Lely are the compact and lightweight SR54 and SR54-S, which have been specifically designed for greens aeration and can aerate up to depths of 25cm. With both models boasting working widths of 54in and working speeds of up to 2.5mph, the SR54-S also benefits from superior ground-following capabilities on soft, undulating putting surfaces. Equally balanced on two rollers for less ground pressure, Toro says that this easy-to-operate unit is the ideal choice for producing the ultimate in soft, plush greens.

Also available now is the best-selling SR72, a versatile machine able to perform a wide range of aeration tasks up to depths of 40cm. Light enough to use on greens and yet tough enough to use on even the most compacted soil, the SR72 - which offers a working width of 72in and maximum speed of 1.5mph - is as comfortable on the sports field as it is on the fairways.

The five remaining models in the range are expected to debut at the IOG Saltex and Harrogate Week exhibitions.
