County Tree Surgeons Ltd is a highly experienced firm of tree care specialists, and has been established for 25 years.
The company specialises in tree surgery, tree felling, stump grinding, root investigation work, hazard assessment, tree planting, tree maintenance, and consultancy across the south east of England.
Contracts include work for local authorities, schools, hospitals, insurance companies, as well as domestic clients.
Managing director Brian Farrow explains: "We are committed to continually improving the quality of the service we provide and to reducing our environmental impact so are always looking for new and innovative ways to do this."
"We previously used liquid glyphosate for stump control, which brought with it a number of issues.
Firstly it was messy to transport and carried with it the risk of spillage and leakage. There were concerns about neighbouring foliage, risks of leaching into the ground and the obvious safety issues with children and animals at public sites."
Ecoplug Max features a unique plug which contains 300mg of granular glyphosate which is released inside the tree stump ensuring that all of the active ingredient is carefully targeted where it is needed.
There is minimal risk of the operator coming in contact with chemical or of chemical spillage. Ecoplug Max also eliminates the risk of damage to surrounding trees and vegetation.
Ecoplug Max also brings operational benefits to County Tree Surgeons as Mr Farrow confirms: "Because the liquid glyphosate is a colourless solution it was also very difficult for clients to see that we had actually treated their stumps.
Although we knew that the stump had been treated, on a number of occasions we returned to site to reapply just to put the customers mind at rest.
This is particularly important when working for insurance companies who have requested the felling and treatment because the tree is damaging a building."
"Ecoplug Max improves our environmental performance by reducing the risk of spillage and inadvertent spreading to neighbouring trees and vegetation. It can be used in all weathers and the client can physically see that the tree has been treated."
He adds: "Not only have we never been asked to return to reapply as the treatment is obvious to see, it has been received by clients with genuine interest."
County Tree Surgeons' teams have used the plugs at approximately 30 sites this autumn and all operatives received full training on the product before using it so that they could confidently answer any questions asked.
Mr Farrow reports that his teams find Ecoplug Max very easy to handle and use, especially when transporting equipment between sites as there are no liquids to 'slosh around'.
He concludes: "Clients have been very impressed with the safety and environmental benefits that Ecoplug Max brings."
Ecoplug Max can be purchased from the Pitchcare shop.
