0 TV 'spy' makes Carlisle Racecourse groundsman's dream come true

The head groundsman at Carlisle Racecourse is celebrating after an "undercover boss" made his dreams come true.

Tony Wootton didn't bat an eyelid when a man called Richard arrived as a casual groundsman at the racecourse.

Weeks later he discovered that Richard was really Paul Fisher - the chief operating officer of Jockey Club Racecourses.

He had been visiting some of the company's tracks for the Channel 4 programme Undercover Boss.

During his stint in Carlisle, Mr Fisher was impressed by Tony's expertise and work ethic.

Then he discovered that Tony desperately wanted his son Thomas to take over as head groundsman when he retired.

The succession would also allow the on-site house, which comes with the job, to stay in the family.

Tony, 67, found out that his wish was going to be granted at the same time he discovered who Richard really was.

He was given one day's notice of a mysterious meeting in London, train tickets and a hotel booking.

The only thing not provided was an explanation.

On arrival at the Jockey Club Racecourses HQ Tony was ushered into a room with Jockey Club bosses and all was revealed.

First the truth about 'Richard'.
