Up to 50% longer life with Toro's new 'EdgeSeries' cylinders

Toro has launched a new range of cylinders. The EdgeSeries has been designed to last up to 50 percent longer than other cylinders saving greenkeepers and groundsmen vast amounts of time simplifying maintenance and reducing replacement and labour costs. Adding to the cost saving, Lely Turfcare is offering 10 percent off the new range, and all genuine Toro cylinders, bought in September.

Called "the next generation of cutting performance" by the company, Toro has toughened the microstructure of the steel to improve wear resistance and improved the design with a new forward swept feature and improvements to the helix and blade angle. All of which contribute to sharper blades for longer and a consistent sharp cut, which ensures your grass looks fantastic, plays great, and stays healthier for longer.

As the perfect drop-in replacement for any cutting unit that has the low-drag seal and reduced-friction bearing package on the newer Greensmaster and Reelmaster mowers (greens mowers from 2012, the RM5010-H and RM3550-D and all 2016 fairway units except RM3100, RM6700 and RM7000), the EdgeSeries cylinders guarantees a fit which matches the exact engineering specifications of the mower, and as you might expect, a perfect fit produces a perfect cut.

Michael Hampton, parts manager at Lely, says: "Customers using this new range of cylinder can expect to reduce their grinding routine significantly. This is just one of the many benefits which can be reeled off when talking about the EdgeSeries. The value of the range is second to none when you consider the usable life of the product has been extended, yet the price, for now, remains the same as previous generations of cylinders, plus there's a further 10 percent off in September."

To determine whether your mower needs regrinding or a replacement cylinder, put it to the paper test. Wearing the correct safety wear place a piece of paper 90 degrees between the cylinder and the bottom blade and turning the cylinder by hand to see if they are working to the best of their ability. If this results in anything less than a precise clean-cut piece, the cylinder may need regrinding or replacing. It is also possible to check the service life of a cylinder by measuring the diameter to see if it is still within specification against the manufacturer reference chart.

Mowing with blunt blades not only produces a deteriorated quality of cut, but can also cause tip dieback, a condition that turns the leaf of the plant brown and puts it at risk of disease. Next time you need to replace your old, worn cylinders, it's highly recommended that you check to see if you can benefit from upgrading to EdgeSeries.
