0 Waitrose adds over £200k to local cricket club fund

Waitrose schemeSupermarket Waitrose has donated £236,000 to the England and Wales Cricket Trust Small Grant Scheme to help more local cricket clubs improve their facilities.

The fund had already been established with £500,000 from the England and Wales Cricket Board to help grassroots clubs. Waitrose made its donation as part of its sponsorship of England Cricket, whereby it supports all England cricket teams.

Last year it pledged to donate £100 to the fund for every four or six scored during the 2014 England home international season. During that time England managed 2,365 boundaries. Gary Ballance scored 110, the most in the men's game, and the highest number in the women's game was 47, by Captain Charlotte Edwards.

Waitrose also donated £100 of food and drink to each of the clubs taking part in last year's ECB Club Open Day, with the aim of enabling them to hold fundraising events themselves. At these events, 1,000 cricket clubs all over the country held Open Days on international cricket weekends, enabling guests from their community to play and watch cricket.
