Why Trevose Golf Club is ‘Pro’ Toro

Trevose Golf ClubA former St Andrews Links deputy course manager says that his Toro machinery is working wonders on Trevose Golf & Country Club's greens.

Jon Wood joined the club in picturesque Padstow on the north Cornish coastline as course manager from his previous position at The Old Course in October last year. Waiting for him was a relatively new fleet of Toro machinery, which he's since been using to great effect.

"I was very happy to arrive to a Toro fleet," he comments. "It makes life easier if you're familiar with the machines and their set up. I'm a long-term Toro user and fan, having used that make of machinery the whole of my working life, which is around 15 years now. It's all very good stuff."

Trevose comprises three courses: the 18-hole Championship Course, which hosted the recent McGregor Trophy; the nine-hole Headland Course; and the Short Course. With the Championship Course attracting more and more tournaments, Jon and his team have been working hard to improve the greens since his appointment.

"We're trying to get finer grasses into the greens to further improve the playing surfaces," he explains. "Our Toro ProCore 648 aerator and ProPass 1800 topdresser are certainly playing their part in that. The 648 is an indispensible bit of kit for what we're trying to achieve - as well as applying 111 tonnes of sand since the beginning of this year, we're also coring with the ProCore three or four times a year."
