X-Treme Clean makes Synthetics Greener

DSC03749Artificial surface specialist Shred & Recycle Ltd has enhanced its package of services with the purchase of an X-treme Clean pitch renovation machine from Charterhouse Turf Machinery, the leading sports pitch maintenance equipment supplier.

Shred & Recycle Ltd is an Environment Agency licenced waste broker and carrier, the company also has a Waste Licence for Recycling of Rubber and Synthetic Surfaces. Its modern processing site for Rubber Pads and Synthetic Surfaces in Cambridgeshire is also licensed by the local authority and is probably the only dedicated site of its kind in the UK.

The company has been established for more than ten years and specialises in lifting and removing synthetic pitches and rubber track surfaces, all over the United Kingdom and has recently expanded its services to Europe.

The workload includes lifting and disposing of over 200,000sqm of synthetic surfaces and removing 100,000sqm of shock pads and running tracks.
However, as partner Andy Baldry explains, the X-Treme Clean allows the company to offer an enhanced service for its customers, cutting costs and boosting their green credentials.

"Previously we have had to lift the surface wholesale, infill included and take all of it back to our site at Huntingdon for shredding and separation. The X-Treme Clean takes out all the infill so that it can be recycled separately, reducing haulage costs and allowing the customer to reuse the material if required."

The 1.8m working width X-Treme Clean 1800 used by Shred & Recycle Ltd contains three firm brushes, which rotate in opposite directions. The infill is vigorously brushed bringing it to the turf surface, and with units fitted to the front and the rear, is then lifted out of the carpet via an Eliminator machine with an elevator.

"We have purchased a new compact tractor to work with the X-Treme Clean and it is a tidy and convenient outfit, providing a one-pass operation," comments Andy. "It will tackle all types of synthetic pitch and allow us to broaden our range of services."

A further service that can be offered is spreading the infill on playing fields as a top dressing, using a new Rink top dresser, also supplied by Charterhouse Turf Machinery.

"This will allow schools and sports clubs to recycle the infill on-site, which is even more beneficial to the environment," comments Andy. "It is a very 'green' process which we expect will open even more doors to us as a company."
