Sowing your poppy seeds:
When to sow your seeds?
Poppies can be sown in the autumn before the frost arrives or alternatively in the early spring after the cold weather has departed. Poppies are normally sown outdoors into a weed-free seedbed. If sown in the autumn they may germinate and overwinter as small plants and thereby getting a headstart over spring sown seeds.
Poppy seeds are one of the most uncomplicated seeds from the wildflower range, with a preference for fertiliser free soil, the only preparation needed is to create a seedbed before sowing your seeds.
How to grow your Poppy seeds?
- Sow your Poppy seeds directly into the prepared seedbed.
- Rake seeds gently into the soil surface.
- Moderately water your seeds if the soil is dry and rain is not forecast.
- Once Poppies have reached a height of 2 Inches, thin out the seedlings leaving 6-8 inches between each plant
Make sure you remove any competing weeds in the area to ensure your display is dominated by Poppies.
