Aintree Race Course groundsman talks about planning for the Grand National
Aintree's head groundsman will be feeling the pressure this week as millions of race fans around the world focus on his 20 acres of lovingly prepared track.
Mark Aynsley, 33, has been at the racecourse for three years. Before then his work changed from farmer's son to Premier league pitch layer, golfing greenkeeper, and now he holds the top job at Aintree.
With only nine annual race days at Aintree the enthusiastic Burscough-man told the ECHO what his department does for the rest of the year.
He said: "The whole site is 300 acres. We're responsible for the gardens, the golf course, the driving range, all the bare areas, and the maintenance of all the outside areas within that boundary.
