Dennis seminar impresses Bowls professionals
DENNIS SEMINAR IMPRESSES BOWLS PROFESSIONALS
'Bowled over' is how many turf professionals felt after attending the recent One-Day Seminar on Bowling Green Maintenance held at The County Arts Bowls Club near Norwich. Organised by the equipment manufacturers Dennis, in association with their local dealer Ben Burgess Equipment and the regional turf products distributor, Collier Turf Care, the event constituted a complete mini-course in bowls turf care.
Approximately 60 Norfolk turf managers attended and they were absorbed by presentations on topics including Deep Scarification and Aeration, Basic Machinery Maintenance and Equipment Finance Options. An in-depth guide to Spring and Summer Bowling Green Maintenance was given by Collier Turf Care staff, covering seed selection, fertiliser application and disease control. Delegates also assembled on the bowling green for an equipment demonstration from the Dennis team where amongst other displays, they witnessed the benefits of using the verti-cutter to increase the speed of the bowling ball.
The turf at The County Arts Bowls Club is living proof of the quality of Dennis machinery, since Head Groundsman Brian Taylor is a dedicated user of the company's equipment. Re-laid four years ago, the green has required careful management to reach its current peak of condition: it is of a high enough standard to be the chosen venue for the Norfolk County Bowls team's home matches in the Middleton Cup tournament this June.
Amongst other Dennis enthusiasts at the seminar were Bob Allen and Peter Holland of Great Yarmouth Borough Council. They have two Dennis FT610 units, plus a G760 and a G860; the latter wider and larger derivatives from the FT stable, "Nothing can touch these Dennis units - we can't fault them," enthuses Bob Allen, who says the Council puts them to good use at many fine turf areas including bowling greens, cricket wickets, ornamental gardens and cemeteries. "With public sector budgets under such close scrutiny, the multi-tasking capabilities of these machines, as well as their quality finish, makes them highly efficient under Best Value initiatives."
Dennis have held similarly successful seminars in the past, and more are being planned for the future, to help ensure turf professionals are kept informed and up to date.
