Commenting on the new equipment, Course Manager Philip Stain said, "We were approaching the end of a five-year contract hire agreement with full maintenance, which had worked extremely well for the Club; it meant that over this period we have known exactly what our outlay is, month on month, for our turf maintenance fleet. We saw no reason to change this policy, but to provide best value for our members we looked at the product offering from all the major players.

"Platts Harris eventually won the business by providing the best overall package with the majority of equipment coming from Ransomes Jacobsen. All of my team tried the various machines and stated their preference; this was followed by a series of negotiations headed by Club Captain, Jon Stevenson. My main concern was that the machinery would do the job, and do it well. Even though price and service were important factors, we still wanted what we felt would be the best machinery for us. The Ransomes Jacobsen kit is easy to maintain on a day-to-day basis and does an excellent job; that's why Platts Harris were successful."

The new fleet includes greens, tees and surrounds mowers, tractors, fairway mowers and utility vehicles.

"My team particularly likes the Fairway 305 with the rear roller brushes." Philip Stain added. "We can cut when there's dew on the ground without leaving clumps and routine maintenance is simple and easy. It's bomb-proof! The Iseki tractors are very high spec; we like the aircon cab and they're powerful. The shuttle gears are amazing."
