Work won't be completed until May but it remains the talk of the northern beaches soccer community.

As our exclusive picture shows, Cromer Park's much needed facelift has continued at a healthy pace since work began at the start of the year.

Gone is the pitch that used to attract ducks after heavy rain and in the next few weeks the surface will be levelled for drainage, with synthetic grass to be laid ahead of the round-nine NSW Premier League clash against Marconi on May 27.

Manly Warringah Football Association general manager Jeremy Toivonen is eagerly watching the construction unfold.

"The installation of the synthetic pitch will provide a quality surface for the elite and offer the durability required for increased community use," he said.

"The superior drainage will also go some way to alleviate previous issues involving wet weather."

Manly United FC coach Craig Midgley is looking forward to watching his team play on the surface in 2012.

"The boys are buzzing. It will be fantastic once it is all finished," he said.

"All our teams will utilise the pitch, it is what the club needs going forward ... it will be good to play our natural game on a great pitch."
