Football's £10m deep freeze

Press Releasein Football

The deep midwinter which wrecked football over the weekend has cost around £10million so far.

The headaches range from managing fixture congestion in the Barclays Premier League in a World Cup year to the basic hand-to-mouth concerns of being able to keep the doors open in Leagues One and Two.

England coach Fabio Capello will be hoping that with only three free midweek slots which don't clash with Champions League, FA Cup replays and England's friendly against Egypt to fit in rearranged matches before the end of the season - the weeks beginning March 23, April 13 and May 4 - the worst of the snow and frost is over.
