Grassfelt lines floral walk to Tatton Park Show

Knutsford proposal 1b.jpgLindum's Grassfelt, the living sward on a felt base, is set to play a pivotal part in Cheshire Tourism Board's initiative to encourage Tatton Park Flower Show visitors to use public transport.

Backed by the RHS, Knutsford Town and Macclesfield Borough Councils the scheme aims to bring in visitors by train and take them on a floral walk through Knutsford before shuttle bussing them from the Tatton Park entrance into the show.

Aimed at easing traffic problems, reducing the carbon footprint and bringing business into the town, the Floral Walk will be highlighted by a series of vertical gardens (all utilising Grassfelt) placed at 15 points along the route.

Shelley Mosco, the designer behind Green Graphite Landscape Design, who has previously used Grassfelt at RHS Chelsea, has created a series of living pictures in which seasonal flowers are planted through the felt based sward. "The turf will be supported on a wire mesh behind which we'll put growing medium followed by a solid backing," she explains. "A deep, wooden frame will hold the whole structure together." Shelley is also using Grassfelt along with Lindum Wildflower for the Knutsford garden within the Tatton Park show. This is a larger, horizontal version of the original vertical design incorporating a public seat and a section of wildflower meadow.

Lindum's MD Stephen Fell says that due to the product's strength and flexibility, Grassfelt has been used in a variety of situations from living green sculptures to steep, acutely angled grass landscapes. "The product is also ideal for locations such as RHS show gardens," he says "as it can be cut and transported in almost any shape and size and is not limited by the need to be harvested in conventional rolls."

Lindum's Cheshire distributor All Turf will supply both Grassfelt and Lindum Wildflower for the Knutsford Floral Walk and Tatton Park Flower Show.
