mikeWork is being carried out on the Swans' training ground to make sure it remains in tip top shape.

The annual renovation of the football pitches used by Swansea City at Llandarcy has begun.

Groundsman Mike Kayes, who is supervising the effort, said the work involved taking the top off the pitches and removing shallow root grasses.

"Once we have got the level, we then seed it," he said.

"We had a tonne of grass seed.

"It was sown last week and usually it takes seven to 10 days to come through.

"We had a few problems with the pitch last year so that is why we did this big renovation."

Mr Kayes said the Premier League players would not be able to use the training ground for the next couple of months until it returned back to normal.

"The Swans players usually use the training pitch every day," he said.

"They will be back training on the pitch on July 1."
