Lantra is the Sector Skills Council for the environmental and land-based sector and the GTC has been a member of the landscaping industry group for nearly ten years.

David's appointment follows former vice-chairman Eddie Wardrobe's promotion to Chairman of the group.

David said he was delighted to have been nominated by fellow group members. He said: "I think the nomination is recognition for the GTC in its commitment to the promotion of education, training and qualifications to the golf club employers and greenkeepers it represents.

"The GTC has worked with Lantra to develop, promote and implement the government framework of qualifications and apprenticeship schemes.

"On behalf of the sector I will continue to work with all the relevant bodies and organisations to ensure that both employers and learners can access a quality range of qualifications from the increasingly popular vocational to the more academic awards."

Chairman Eddie Wardrobe said: "David has been an active and knowledgeable member of Lantra's Landscaping Industry Group for many years.

"His contribution to research and development work and his contacts in the industry have enabled us to ensure fit-for-purpose education and training for the industry.

"In light of his involvement to date, the support from the other Industry Group members and his understanding of Lantra in our Sector Skills Council role, we believe that David will be a great asset to the group as Deputy Chair.

"We look forward to working closely to meet the needs of the group's action plan to ensure a highly skilled and motivated workforce for the future."

Lantra is an independent organisation licensed by the UK government to increase skills in the landscape sector to help businesses increase productivity and profits.

It is an employer-led organisation to ensure employers are in the driving seat to tackle skills and business development issues in their industry.

Lantra brings together employers from throughout the UK, not in competition, but in collaboration to provide leadership and steer work programmes.

Key to this engagement are industry groups made up of employers and representatives from across the sector.

The landscaping industry group comprises key representatives from across the industry covering hard, soft and interior landscaping; sports turf and golf greenkeeping; private, heritage and botanic gardens; commercial grounds, public parks and green spaces.
