Heavy rain and flooding

Press Releasein Golf

Over the last week we have seen pretty bad conditions here in St Andrews with excessive rainfall which has caused some major flooding on the course. We have had in excess of 60mm of rain since the weekend and as you will see from my picture the Swilcan Burn is nearing overflowing. High tides are predicted for this afternoon and the possibility of the burn bursting its banks is a worry, so we have started to sand bag the front of the 1st green to protect that area.

Work continues on course preparation at moment and we still remain busy. Last weekend I was due to overseed all the greens but again due to the weather had to put that on hold. It is hoped that we might be able to achieve that this coming weekend.

Looking ahead, we are starting to make plans for our busy period in the way of tournaments that we will be hosting. First up in early September we have 2 weeks of R&A medals on the course and follwed immediately by the Dunhill Links Championship in the last week in September so we are planning for staffing and work schedules at moment. Hopefully by then the Indian summer will be with us!
