“It just had to be Allett”

Edgbaston 1Four Allett cylinder mowers are helping prepare wickets and maintain the outfield this season at Edgbaston, home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club and a Test Match venue since 1902.

Joining the ground's two existing Allett Regal 36 outfield mowers for 2012 are a new Allett Shaver 20 fine-turf pedestrian mower and a C-24 pedestrian turf maintenance system with three interchangeable cartridge heads designed for mowing, verticutting and powered rotary brushing.

Specified by Edgbaston's head groundsman, Gary Barwell, the new Allett equipment was supplied and installed at the world famous ground by local Allett dealer, Farol Ltd.

"I've enjoyed using Allett equipment throughout my career as a groundsman, starting off as a trainee at Leicestershire's Grace Road in 1993 and more recently at Trent Bridge, where I was deputy to head groundsman, Steve Birks," explained Gary.

Taking over at Edgbaston in November 2011 following the retirement of long-serving head groundsman, Steve Rouse, Gary pointed out that the purchase of a new dedicated wicket mower was an early priority as was a machine equipped with interchangeable cartridge heads for use across the square, the latter being an addition to Edgbaston's machinery fleet.

"It was not too difficult deciding which make to go for," he said. "I have always found Allett machines reliable, easy to set-up and good to use, producing the consistent results required by groundstaff and players. The price of the equipment was also very competitive so it just had to be Allett."
