Lord’s in rude health to host Bangladesh

Lord's will look immaculate on Thursday morning. It always does for the first Test of the summer: the pitch rolled and mowed to perfection, the watered outfield glistening, the sightscreens freshly painted. What a shame that they have to ruin it by playing cricket.

If Mick Hunt had his way - and the Lord's head groundsman was possibly joking - the ideal season would not involve any matches. Certainly not as many high-profile games as this season. For the first time, there will be three Test matches, one a neutral game between Pakistan and Australia. Then there are three one-day internationals, two games between Middlesex and touring sides, and more Twenty20 games than ever, all needing to be played on a relatively central strip.
