New Fertiliser for World's Oldest Rugby Pitch

With the 2015 Rugby World Cup rapidly approaching, Head of Grounds at Rugby School, James Mead has recently used new 'LebanonTurf' fertiliser to help maintain the game's oldest pitch.

Rugby school gave the name to the sport back in the early 1800's when student, William Webb Ellis, picked up a football and ran with it. Today, that history ensures a constant queue of Rugby fans and tourists to the site - many just hoping to glimpse the hallowed turf.

"With the World Cup coming to Great Britain next year, we know there will be massive public interest in the sport. I need to ensure that everything looks perfect at the 'Spiritual home' of Rugby - regardless of the weather conditions or time of year"

To achieve that, James has worked closely with Mark Allen, of Amenity Land Solutions Ltd (ALS), to produce a nutritional plan to deliver genuine results, 12 months of the year.

"I like to use good quality, controlled release fertilisers - especially going through autumn and into winter. However, with many of these types of product the cost can be prohibitive - and occasionally, I have found some of them slow to 'kick-in' - a big problem as we need that 'Wow factor' at all times".

In September 2014, James applied the new Proscape 12-6-24 controlled release fertiliser manufactured by LebanonTurf. This gave him a rapid aesthetic improvement in the pitch, mainly due to the inclusion of 4% Magnesium. That initial positive response was followed by sustained colour and vigour throughout October and November.
