Nunholm is top ground

DUMFRIES Cricket Club members are celebrating a special Christmas present from the Scottish Cricket Union.

Their ground, Nunholm, has been voted best in Scotland for 2006.

The ground was in immaculate order for the international match, Scotland Ladies versus Derbyshire Ladies, held in July, and was a credit to the Club throughout their first season in the Scottish National League - many visiting teams commenting very favourably on the playing surface.

The award was announced at the Scottish Cricket Union (S.C.U.) Annual General Meeting.

The cup was presented at a special ceremony at Nunholm to ground convenor, David Davidson, and to club groundsman, Raymond Murray.

While being an honour for both of these club stalwarts, it is perhaps especially so for Raymond, who has tended to the wickets, outfield and over the boundary surrounds for 30 years - a real tribute to his dedicated work throughout that time.

The presentation was made by Chris Carruthers, past President of the S.C.U. with Dumfries Cricket Club President, Jerry Dawson, in attendance.

In presenting the award, Chris Carruthers commented most kindly on the appearance of the ground and praised the hard work put in by both Raymond and David, as well as by so many others at Nunholm who have contributed over the years.

The club has no intention of resting on its laurels, with a number of exciting development projects being planned for 2007, notably a new storage building and a three-lane, all-weather practice facility.
