PGA Cata Stadium 13thPGA Catalunya Resort's status as one of Europe's finest golf venues has been confirmed following the release of a new course rankings survey.

The acclaimed 36-hole golf resort, near Barcelona - a two-time Spanish Open host - has maintained its top-five position in the Top 50 Courses of Continental Europe rankings, published by the UK's influential Golf Monthly magazine and voted for by the publication's senior staff, contributors and readers.

PGA Catalunya's dramatic Stadium Course, which has consistently received the highest praise and is ideally augmented by the challenging Tour Course, a European Tour Qualifying School venue, was placed 4th overall and number two in Spain.

Profiling PGA Catalunya Resort's Stadium Course in its rankings, Golf Monthly wrote: "This is effectively Europe's equivalent of the TPC at Sawgrass. It is easy to be beguiled by the stunning setting with the Pyrenees on the horizon. However, concentration is vital as the beauty is matched by the difficulty. Pine trees, heather, strategic bunkers and water are attractive to the eye but also to the golf ball."

This is the latest accolade of many to be delivered upon PGA Catalunya Resort since it opened in 1999, and it currently enjoys World Top 100 Course rankings with both www.top100golfcourses.co.uk (86th and 4th in Europe) and Golf World (88th).

The resort's two exhilarating courses - both designed by Angel Gallardo and Neil Coles - are wonderfully complemented by the exclusive 149-bedroom Hotel Melia Golf Vichy Catalan and first-class practice facilities regarded as some of the finest anywhere in the world; indeed the resort has invested heavily in developing a new approach-play practice area, due to open later this year, that, it is understood, will be unique in Europe.

Miguel Girbes, Golf Manager at PGA Catalunya Resort, said: "We are extremely proud of our magnificent golf courses and fully committed to providing every visitor with an unforgettable and compelling experience at a world-class golfing destination.

"We have significantly invested in upgrading and refining our excellent facilities to take them to the next level. We are honoured to once again receive such an elevated ranking that we believe truly reflects the high esteem in which PGA Catalunya Resort is held."

The convenient proximity of the resort to Girona-Costa Brava airport, a major hub for Ryanair and other European airlines, means that golfers from across the UK, Ireland and the continent are less than a two-hour flight away.
