Roy Gadsden is May's winner of the Pitchcare Photo Competition after his beautiful pheasant, captured strutting around the rough at the side of the road in Dumfries & Galloway, received the highest number of votes.

Roy is an keen gardener, amateur photographer and bird watcher, he explains, 'This beautiful bird was strutting around in the rough at the side of the road. Magnificent creature, never seen a pheasant this colour, but there it was in the wild! Maybe there are lots of "blue" pheasants in Scotland?'

SCOTTISH PHEASANT

May produced many fine images on the 'Featherd Friends' theme, with a number of members in close contention for the winning accolade..

This month's theme is 'Poppies', to commemorate the centenary of the start of World War One. We at Pitchcare have encouraged our members to grow poppies this year and we eagerly anticipate your photographs. Poppies have a tendency to spring up along road sides and field edges, and we have already had some exquisite pictures. This theme allows you to be creative and to take advantage of the current crop of poppies growing not only in your garden but in your community too.

You can upload your poppy photographs now in our Photo Competition.

Happy Snapping!
