Pitch in and help us realise dream

Players at Evesham Rugby Club are hoping kind-hearted residents will come to their aid ahead of the biggest game of the club's history.

The dry and sunny weather has turned the Lower Albert Road side's pitch "as hard as concrete", according to head coach Gary Diston, making for a difficult and dangerous playing surface.

An appeal has now been launched for the loan of irrigation equipment which can be used to soften the pitch before the Avonsiders play Bramley Phoenix in a semi-final clash for the National Junior Vase on Saturday, May 1.

The winner of the match will go on to play in the finals at Twickenham in two weeks' time. Mr Diston said the club had a water supply but just needed help in dispersing it. "With rugby being the game it is, there's a lot of ground contact and we just worry about injury," he said.
