POWER at Park Hill
Park Hill Training from Seagrave in Loughborough ran their first POWER (Protection of Water, the Environment & Recommendations) Amenity training course in January 2007 for 10 candidates. Most were employees from Nottingham City Council who were keen for their employees to take the course and gain a level 3 qualification in pesticide use.
They recognised that managers and supervisors and all those having responsibility for pesticide applications could benefit from training which targets the safe use of pesticides in amenity, ground care and sports turf situations.
The course covers weed and pest control, recommendations for safe use, safe application and protection of both surface and ground water and the Environmental impact and best practice targets for amenity pesticide use.
Out of the 10 candidates who took the course 8 passed and were awarded their certificate at a presentation by BASIS Managing Director Rob Simpson at Woodthorpe Park Nottingham on 15 February 2007.
"I am pleased to see a Local Authority taking seriously their obligations for the safe use and application of pesticides" said Rob Simpson. "Where pesticides are used in public areas it is vital that the right product is used at the right dose and applied safely so that public and environmental safety are maintained" he added. "This qualification can help to give supervisors and managers the knowledge and expertise to ensure pesticides are used properly.
Park Hill have since held a further BETA Amenity training course for both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire County Councils.
