Ryder Cup Europe officials to visit PGA Catalunya Resort
The Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG), together with the Generalitat de Catalunya and other public Spanish and Catalan stakeholders, will welcome The 2022 Ryder Cup Evaluation Committee for its official inspection visit, March 24-25, 2015.
The inspection will provide Ryder Cup Europe officials with a close look at Spain's vision for golf's most prestigious international team match and one of the world's largest sports events. If chosen, the event would be hosted at PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona.
The Ryder Cup delegation is headed by Richard Hills, Director of Ryder Cup Europe, and will evaluate the Bid on its political, social and administrative support structure, as well as Costa Brava-Barcelona's ability to deliver the extensive requirements of this major event.
Richard Hills said: "The Ryder Cup bidding process has a number of important milestones and we very much look forward to visiting the six bidding nations, their representatives, and their national golf federations, to understand the detail of their respective 2022 bids."
The inspection will start on March 24 at Lloret de Mar near Girona, where a technical seminar will introduce the Evaluation Committee to key aspects of the Bid, such as the institutional support, infrastructure, transport, security, commercial and legacy proposals.
Following this, the Evaluation Committee will move on to the Bid's candidate venue, PGA Catalunya Resort, which was recently named European Golf Resort of the Year 2015 (IAGTO), where they will be presented with a blueprint for the 2022 Match.
Ryder Cup Europe officials will also have an opportunity to sample the spectator transport experience, including the high-speed train transfer from Girona to Barcelona.
The visit will conclude on March 25. Following a walking tour of Barcelona, a press conference will take place where Ryder Cup Europe officials will share their first impressions of the Bid to both members of the national and international media.
A wide range of stakeholders, including the Consejo Superior de Deportes, Generalitat de Catalunya, RFEG, PGA Catalunya Resort, Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, Diputació de Girona, Diputació de Barcelona, Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Ayuntamiento de Girona, Ayuntamiento de Caldes de Malavella and the Federación Catalana de Golf, are jointly working on the Bid dossier to be presented to The Ryder Cup Selection Committee on April 30, 2015.
After dossier submission, Ryder Cup Europe will enter into a period of thorough analysis alongside a panel of independent experts, before announcing the chosen host venue in October 2015.
Germany, Austria, Italy and Portugal have all also officially declared their intentions to bid for The 2022 Ryder Cup.
