"Best of Both Worlds"

A hot sunny day added an extra sparkle to the "Best of Both Worlds" Seminar and Demonstration Day at Worksop College, sponsored by SISIS Equipment Ltd, British Seed Houses, Scotts, SIS, TYM Tractors and WBB Minerals.

As the title suggests, there is a place for both natural and synthetic turf playing areas but correct planning, installation and maintenance is vital. The object of the day was to advise turf professionals how to get the best out of their sports surfaces whether natural or artificial turf.

In the first seminar session Martyn Jones, well respected international speaker, part-time lecturer at Cranfield University and Founder Trustee of the National Turfgrass Foundation put forward some very thought-provoking ideas about aeration, and how to get the most out of natural turf playing surfaces.

David Rhodes a consultant with 20 years experience advised on planning and maintaining synthetic turf surfaces.

Other presentations included "Choosing the Right Grass Cultivars & Mixtures", "Turfgrass Nutrition", "Selecting Top Dressings and Rootzones" and "Artificial Turf - Another Option".

SISIS and TYM tractors demonstrated a wide range of maintenance machinery including the SISIS AER-AID air injection aerator and the new SISIS SS/1000 sweeper for synthetic pitches.

The next "Best of Both Worlds" Seminars will be held in the S.E. of England in September. Full details from SISIS - publicity@sisis.com or 01625 503030.
