Club numbers under par?

Press Releasein Golf

The oldest golf club in the county is in trouble due to dwindling numbers of players.

Boxmoor Golf Club is struggling to stay open despite its 120-year heritage and is hoping to go on a new recruitment drive to help increase the number of players attending the club.

The club's treasurer, Gary Newark, blamed difficulties on an overall decline in the sport and the impact the recession has had on limiting people's recreational acitivities.

He said: "We're not alone as a club in the difficulties we face, it's just the way the economy is.

"We're in the process of trying to market the club, get the name out there and bring new members in.

"I'd say it's probably the toughest ever nine-hole golf course, and people should give it a go. You'll either love it or hate it - you'll beat it or it'll beat you."
