Dennis Ellicott retires after 40 Years in the Parts Business

Dennis Ellicott, Parts Manager at PJ Flegg, the South West dealer for Ransomes Jacobsen (a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company), has retired recently after 40 years of service in the grounds care industry.
Dennis completed 23 years at Flegg's and a further 17½ years at Stanley West in Exeter. Having grown up on a farm, he was always interested in mechanical equipment and after leaving school he began his working life in the motorcycle trade. After just a couple of years Dennis was moved into their Parts department and has been in the parts business ever since!
Ransomes Jacobsen's Phil Naunton, International Parts Manager and Stephen Mitchell, Customer Care Director visited Fleggs to present Dennis with a special copy of the Ransomes 200-year history book, signed by the Directors at Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd as a thank you for his commitment to our industry.
Stephen Mitchell asked Dennis what makes a good parts person and Dennis was very clear in his reply, "A great memory for numbers, attention to detail and a strong affinity for the product, wanting to understand what goes on, where, and how the equipment works.
However, the key element is to have a strong passion to want to help the customer. When a customer approaches the parts counter or phones us, they have a problem. Providing them with the correct replacement part and helping to keep their machine in tip-top condition makes for satisfied customers as well as providing great personal pride."
Dennis retires knowing that his dedication has resulted in thousands of satisfied customers, although it doesn't look as if he will slow down much. A keen DIY man, he already has two bathroom refurbishment projects awaiting him and he will pursue his love of walking, enjoying the costal walks around the beautiful Devon coastline.
