Foundation Degrees in Horticulture at Writtle College

Writtle College is pleased to report that its revised suite of Foundation Degrees has recently been approved by the University of Essex, who validate these awards.

In the autumn of 2004 six different Foundation Degrees are to be offered in:

Landscape and Amenity Management
Landscape Construction
Horticulture
Horticultural Crop Production
Horticulture (Nursery and Retail)
Sports Turf and Golf Course Management

The courses may be accessed in two ways. Students may opt for full-time study - in which case an industrial placement year may be included. Alternatively, those in employment may study part-time and access a number of work-based modules, to allow greater flexibility of study.

These Foundation Degrees at Writtle College have also received generous support from the Geoff Hamilton New Gardener's Foundation. A studentship of £3,000 (spread over the 2 taught years of the course) is available each year, although applications for this year must be submitted by 1st May. All horticulture students at Writtle may also apply to the Foundation for a travel bursary of up to £1,500, which can be combined as part of their industrial placement year.

Details of these courses and accompanying awards (studentship and travel bursaries) may be obtained from Registry, Writtle College, Chelmsford, Essex CM1 3RR. Tel 01245 424200, or via the college web site www.writtle.ac.uK
