Mulgrave finished bowling green.jpgSport Mulgrave organisers are delighted with the progress of a new development of a £75,000 bowling green at Sport Mulgrave in Lythe.

The commissioning of the new bowling green has been made possible by generous donations from two major sponsors The Normanby Trust and £20,000 from Yorventure, through funds generated by Yorwaste.

A team from landscape contractors Cleveland Land Services (CLS), who had already constructed the adjacent cricket and football pitches in 2007, are now responsible for creating the green adjacent to the pavilion at the new sports ground site in Lythe, nr Whitby.

Mulgrave in Lythe Bowling.JPGImplementing the project has required grading of an existing terrace on a cut and fill basis to create a flat green base and perimeter path. Ditch units had to be installed as well as the drainage pipes and an automated irrigation system with buried tank. Gravel and rootzone material were added as part of the construction profile in readiness for seeding. Completion deadline is on schedule for the green to be ready for play by July 2010.

Dougie Raine, chairman of the Mulgrave Community Sports Association, said "This marks another important milestone in the ongoing development of the facilities at Sport Mulgrave. In the coming months we are going to be working on building up Mulgrave Bowling Club which will be a wonderful facility for people of all ages in the local community and beyond."

Cleveland Land Services operate a 12 months maintenance programme to ensure the green is always at the peak of condition and playing conditions.
