Homer is groundsman of the year at Silkmore Lane

Brocton FC have been celebrating a prestigious ground award from the Football Association.

In what is their 75th anniversary year, and after only four seasons at their Silkmore Lane ground, secretary Terry Homer has won the Groundsman of the Year award for steps 5 and 6 football clubs in the nonleague pyramid.

The accolade is rich reward for groundsman Homer. The ground team includes chairman Brian Townsend, Nigel Pepper (vicechairman), Brian Chandler (youth development), Barbara Chandler, Trevor Cook (both committee) and Eddie Wright (treasurer) pictured above.

The team spend many of their Fridays preparing the ground for match days.

Such is the excellent job they all do, the club is usually inundated with requests to host games through the season and many local league and county finals are held at Silkmore Lane, the envy of many a club at this level of football.
