New Management Heralds New Era for Millennium Pitch
A new era for Cardiff's Millennium pitch has begun.
Paul Sergeant, The Millennium Stadium General Manager has announced that three playing surfaces have been ordered, spaced over the next twelve months.
Lindum Turf, the sports turf growers from the Vale of York will supply 10,000 sq metres of their specialist, (LT6 football mixture) thick turf, at the end of this month, (July) in preparation for the first fixture, the Community Shield match on 10th. August, between Arsenal and Manchester United. Deliveries will be repeated twice next year, in January, before the Six Nations Rugby Tournament, and May, prior to the FA Cup Final.
"We were looking for strength, quality, maturity and a good root zone," says Sergeant. "As each surface will have a three to four month lifespan, compatibility between root zones was not be an issue. We see the coming season's plans as a short term, interim move, while we review the current pitch system."
Stephen Fell, MD of Lindum, whose company last grew turf for the stadium in 2001, says he is delighted to be supplying the Millennium Stadium again, and looking forward to working with the new management.
