0 New Managing Director for DLF Trifolium

DSCN1031.JPGLaurence Scowen takes over as Managing Director for DLF Trifolium Ltd on July 28th 2008 after leaving Eurocaps, where he held a Board of Directors position as Sales and Business Development Director. Eurocaps, who contract manufacturer vitamin and mineral supplements, supply high street multiples, pharmacies, health food stores and mail order companies in the UK, mainland Europe and further afield.

"We are delighted to welcome Laurence to the company and feel confident that his experience and personality will help maintain our market leading position within the grass seed business," says David Keegan, who has been MD for DLF for 16 years.

Before joining Eurocaps, Laurence worked in agrochemical research and development for Schering Agrochemicals prior to and during their merger with Hoechst, who then became AgrEvo. His responsibilities included safety evaluation of novel herbicides, fungicides and insecticides together with work on the early stages and nutritional comparability testing of genetically modified canola and maize.

Laurence also has nine years experience in the commercial division of Covance, a leading global provider of contract research and development services to the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and industrial chemical sectors. His culminating role as Head of Client Services gave him responsibility for all commercial aspects of the sales process within the £45m turnover business.

Laurence was born in Kent and grew up in Essex where he had his first contact with farming, spending his spare time helping out and then working vacations on a 300 acre farm in Essex, principally with wheat, barley, rape and field beans. His extensive experience with small dairy herd husbandry, upland sheep farming, poultry production and working with horses and riding instruction, was to stand him in good stead later on. He has a science-based education resulting in a Degree in Pharmacology with Toxicology.

Laurence is married with two children aged 5 and 13. They have been located in rural Herefordshire, near Ross-on-Wye since mid 2005. The family have a long-held interest in sight-hounds and have been the owners of many Afghan hounds past and present - they are currently awaiting a new addition to the hound family. An 'enthusiastic' runner for fitness, Laurence enjoys friendly but competitive multi-terrain and trail runs. As well as a general interest in country pursuits - particularly sporting clay pigeon shooting, Laurence has a broad interest and knowledge of cars but a special weakness for anything 4 x 4.
