Swanston 0133.jpgSwanston Golf Ltd, managers of two golf courses and a driving range at Swanston, situated just a few miles south of Edinburgh city centre in the foothills of the Pentlands, has invested in new Ransomes Jacobsen mowers and E-Z-GO golf buggies from their local dealer, Fairways GM of Kinross.

Swanston has been a traditional 18-hole hillside course since it was built in 1927. However, since 2003, the management - who own the land and associated buildings at the course - has secured long-term investment to ensure the future of the club. Their vision is to provide modern golfing and leisure facilities without the need to levy members for the investment and to create a relaxed 'country-club' atmosphere at an affordable price.

In November 2007 the new clubhouse was opened. For members, it's a friendly and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy before or after a round of golf. For visitors, it provides an excellent restaurant together with a bar and café.

Colin McClung is the Managing Director of the golfing complex, which also features the Templar 9-hole short-course, a 350 yard driving range, three full-size USGA specification practice greens and a fitness suite.

"Our package here at Swanston is pitched both at the local player, who is looking for a well-maintained 18 hole course to play friendly and competitive golf, and that also provides other facilities to attract and retain the modern golfer, whether expert or novice, young or old, male or female.

"We have demonstrated our commitment with the purchase of these new items of equipment. For maintaining the rough and semi-rough areas we have a Jacobsen AR250 rotary mower, which is one of the best multi-purpose mowers around. It's dependable, reliable and is good for presentation, enabling us to stripe the semi.

"The E-Z-GO TXT golf cars give us a good, basic fleet of buggies which we can offer to members and visitors to help them enjoy their game on our undulating Swanston course. We are now upgrading and improving the buggy paths to facilitate the fleet.

"We see ourselves as a progressive club, family-orientated and available to all. We want to provide affordable leisure activities, centred around golf, that will attract all ages and believe that this model is a successful formula. We need successful business partners to fulfil our vision and Fairways GM is that type of company."
