Real's training centre to be equipped with artificial grass pitches

In conjunction with its Spanish partner Opsa, Desso DLW Sports Systems will build all ten football pitches of the planned training centre for Real Madrid. This unique project consists of five "DD Challenge Pro" artificial grass pitches, a reinforced natural grass system, the so-called DD GrassMaster system, and four natural grass pitches.

Thanks to these pitches, training will be able to take place regardless of the weather conditions. The Desso artificial pitches can withstand many more playing hours than the natural pitches. Having these pitches will reduce the pressure on the four natural grass pitches, allowing them to remain in optimum condition for longer.

Real Madrid selected DD Challenge Pro grass for its playing characteristics that replicate the play and ball behaviour of natural grass. DD Challenge Pro is Desso's latest development in artificial grass for football. Once again, Desso DLW is seeing its strategy of continuous focus on and investment in innovation and quality sports surfaces rewarded.

Beckham, Zidane, Figo and the other stars of Real Madrid are already familiar with the Desso grass. Until their own training centre is completed, they will be training in the National Training center " La Ciudad del Fútbol" in Madrid, the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation and the home of the Spanish national team. Three of the five pitches in this centre are Desso artificial pitches.

The construction of the training centre starts in January and will take some 6 months. The cost of the project is in the region of 9 million euro.
