Lincolnshire based design, engineering and construction company Smith Construction are already reaping the benefits after their recent investment in 3 new pieces of machinery from fellow Lincolnshire engineering company Shelton Sportsturf Drainage Ltd. Smiths construct sports pitches from high quality artificial turf and grass, polymeric and natural grass sports surfaces and have been working in the industry for 35 years.

Russ Smith, Transport and Plant Manager at Smith Construction said "Our business in the natural grass sports surface area is growing and we have seen the need to have a wider variety of specialist kit at our finger tips.

We first encountered Shelton machinery when we were contracted to construct the warm-up track at the London 2012 Olympics and we were really impressed, not only with the functionality and build quality of the machinery, but also the results of the work. I fell in love with their machinery then and I have been keen to add Shelton kit to our fleet ever since. We are excited about what this machinery can offer our clients."

The additions to the Smith's machinery fleet include; a Shelton Supertrencher +625, a 3 tonne Gravel Band Drainer and a 3 Point Linkage Gravel Band Drainer. With their ever growing sports surface business Smith's have seen the need to increase their fleet to include specialist, robust machinery that helps them carry out heavy duty works, such as soil stabilisation and secondary drainage installation.

The new machinery will give Smiths the ability to take on more varied projects and to operate more efficiently in a competitive market. They have already put the 3 tonne Gravel Band Drainer to work on a school sports field in Dorset, installing 8,000m of secondary drainage with excellent results. It looks like it's onwards and upwards for the Lincolnshire firm!
