TYM is top of the class at Stirling University

Stirling Uni 1Jim Struthers, Gardens and Grounds Superintendant at Stirling University has just one regret about his TYM T433 tractor - that he doesn't get to drive it!

"It's a great tractor and my operator loves it, says it's like a Rolls Royce!" he laughs. "I've been in the job 30 years and am nearing retirement, so I'm in a supervisory role these days, but the TYM makes me want to get back behind the wheel!"

The T433 was purchased after a visit to the Royal Highland Show last year, when Jim met up with old friend Richard Green of dealer Stewart Plant Sales Groundcare, as he explains. "We have five tractors in the fleet which are of other makes, but when Richard showed me the T433 I was immediately impressed," he says. "I was particularly attracted by its Perkins engine - my father was a Rolls Royce engineer and he always rated Perkins highly."

Designated for use on the University's nine hole par three golf course, the 43hp T433 is mainly dedicated to trailer work, moving top dressings and other materials around the 14 acre course, part of a 360 acre campus. "The course is very popular, not just with students but the whole community, who have the benefit of a practice area and the university's own coach, so we are always busy," comments Jim.

Last winter, as Scotland saw some of the most severe weather in its history, the T433 really came into its own on snow clearing duties, too. "The tractor was in use for up to 12 hours a day, every day, which is hard on any machine, but the Perkins engine lived up to expectations and it did a brilliant job. I was really impressed," recalls Jim.

He comments that the large cab is much appreciated by the operator who works in all weathers, although it can be a squeeze to get into the golf course sheds. The straightforward 16x16 synchro shuttle transmission has also made the tractor very easy to drive, Jim adds, and convenient to manoeuvre when on trailer duties.
Stewart Plant Sales Groundcare fitted turf tyres to the T433 to ensure the gentle tread needed on the golf course's fine turf, and Jim reports that he has enjoyed excellent service from the Glasgow-based dealer.

"I would recommend the tractor to anyone and will be suggesting TYM when we are looking to purchase our next tractor," he says.
