Vote for women’s rugby club today

Press Releasein Rugby

Today is D-Day for Halton Women and Girls Amateur Rugby League Club as their bid for a £50,000 People's Millions Lottery Grant is put to a vote.

The club, based at Parklands in Widnes, is being pitched head to head for the money with Manchester Harriers and Athletics Club.

And chair Kathy McMullin is urging people in the borough and beyond to help the club poll the necessary votes to see off their big-city 'opposition'.

The cash would be used by HW&G to provide all-female and disabled changing, upgrade pitch drainage and fund a mobile floodlight.

Under the scheme, the club's HQ would be used by other groups and organisations such as Special Olympics GB and the Valiant disability sports group.

The club's bid will be broadcast on ITV's Granada Reports from 6pm today.

But telephone voting lines are now open and will remain so until midnight tonight.

To vote for Halton Women & Girls, ring 08716268851. Calls cost 10p per call from BT landlines but higher charges may apply on other networks and mobile calls will cost considerably higher.

You can call a maximum of ten times from the one phone number.
