After the fox mess, let's hope that the Irish have a stinker!
As we stood lined up facing the West Stand, listening impassively during the Scottish national anthem at Twickenham last Sunday, there was a big cheer from the crowd and I presumed there was a streaker on the field.
I am no rugby traditionalist but I thought it was a bit disrespectful and stayed facing forward and therefore couldn't see what was going on. I forgot all about it as we got on with the match but every time we went down for a scrum I noticed an unpleasant smell.
I thought one of the front row had had an accident but there was a canine whiff about it. I couldn't work it out, this was the hallowed Twickenham turf not the local park. Had the groundsman brought his dog to work with him and then not noticed him fouling the pitch?
After the match I found out that it was a fox on the pitch - one of a family that lives in the ground - that had got the cheer during the anthems and suddenly everything became clear.
