Alex Fergusson worked at Hamilton Park for 20 years
The groundsman credited with transforming Hamilton Park into one of the UK's best racecourses has died aged 73.
Alex Fergusson was head groundsman at Hamilton Park for 20 years before retiring in 2003. He passed away after a battle with cancer.
Colleagues have paid tribute to his incredible eye for detail and his tireless approach to his work.
Hamilton's racecourse manager, Hazel Peplinski, said: "I worked with Alex for 10 years before he retired and he was brilliant at his job.
"The track was always immaculate, but the grounds were wonderful too with the manicured lawns, flowerbeds and woodland."
Alex, from Ayrshire, returned to his home of Tarbolton after he retired. Before moving into the racing world, Alex was a member of the Ayrshire farming community. He never married.
