At Loughborough Uni, pitches must be open no matter what the weather!

Loughborough University 002With the reputation for being the UK's premier university for sport to maintain, Mark Freeman Head Groundsman for Loughborough University has a busy schedule to maintain the grass pitches that are home to their Rugby, Football, Cricket, Lacrosse and American Football teams.

Maintaining the drainage system was a priority as far as Mark was concerned because the pitches, which are also available for hire, have to be open no matter what the weather. With this in mind he had demonstrations of several small 3-point linkage mounted gravel band drainers which would enable him to intensify drainage on small areas when and where necessary with little disruption.

However he also looked at the Shelton 3-tonne gravel band drainer and immediately recognised that its vastly increased output over the smaller machines would enable the installation of secondary drainage on larger areas in a short period of time with minimal disruption to the busy games schedule.

"The pitches are located on the campus or immediately adjacent and are maintained to the highest standard. The ability to complete whole pitches at a time gives us the consistency of play that our staff and students expect" said Mark.

With Loughborough University's continued investment in its sports facilities, its reputation as being home to the country's largest concentration of world-class training facilities across a wide range of sports remains safe.
