Barenbrug previews revolutionary New RPR regenerating ryegrass at conference
Specialist grass seed breeder Barenbrug treated some of its football customers to a sneak preview of a revolutionary new product at a conference held at Manchester City Football Club.
Gathering together 25 groundsmen from clubs including Aston Villa, Wigan Athletic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the exclusive two-day conference gave attendees an insight into how Manchester City's grounds team works with Barenbrug to find cutting-edge grass seed solutions across its two training sites and main stadium.
A highlight of the conference, however, was research and development manager Jayne Leyland's presentation on the latest solutions for football grasses from the breeding and applied research programme, during which she revealed a breakthrough product - Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass (RPR).
Combining a unique creeping growth habit with the capability to establish quickly and tolerate wear, RPR creeping perennial ryegrass promises to be of great benefit for football, rugby and other sports surface applications.
Excitingly, attendees were given an early opportunity to trial this unique Barenbrug-bred cultivar as part of the final stages of product testing as the company works towards RPR's commercial launch.
